Makita Saws
The Makita Corporation was founded in 1915 which is coming up on 100 years in the industry. It started in a small repair shop in Nagoya, Japan. Sounds familiar doesn't it. From this little repair shop it grew into one of the leading manufacturers of power tools in the world. Whether it be battery powered or a cord you plug into the wall, from electronic hand tools to larger machines, to pneumatic tools even.
Makita supplies several different industries with tools also. Not just woodworking. Some of them are:
Cordless: drills, driver drills, hammer drills, screw drivers, impact drivers, impact wrenches, circular saws, reciprocating saws, jig saws, flash lights, blowers, vacuums, just to name a few. Almost anything corded is made into cordless.
Concrete: power cutters, hammer drills, rotary hammers, demolition hammers, breaker hammers, planers and scrapers.
Drills & Fastening: drills, screwdrivers, cutout tools, impact drivers, impact wrenches
Metal Working: metal working saws, grinders, sanders and polishers, just to name a few.
Saws: circular saws, jig saws, reciprocating saws, fiber saws.
Benchtop: miter saws, table saws and planers.
Woodworking: routers, trimmers, planers, finishing sanders, random orbit sanders, belt sanders, just to name a few.
Pneumatic: Nailers and compressors.
Power Equipment: generators, blowers, chainsaws, hedge and string trimmers, brush cutters.
That is quite a list of tools huh? However, we are here to talk about the famous circular saw. There are 16 various circular saws to pick from. We are going to talk about the 5007NK circular saw used by most professionals. Yes, the woodworking saw. I bet one was used to help build the very house you are living in right now.
The 7-1/4 '' Circular saw model 5007NK
Powerful 15 AMP motor for a high power-to-weight ratio@ 5,800 rpm - weighs 11 pounds
Lower guard design improves performance when making bevel and narrow cuts
Large cutting capacity (2-1/2" at 90º, 1-3/4" at 45º and 1-3/8" at 56º)
Ball bearing construction engineered for a longer tool life
Using this saw is a dream. Easy to set up for depth or squaring the blade or replacing it, to easily replacing the brushes. It has a variety of blades to use in it. This saw, however, is used mainly for the woodworking industry.
It has been used to cut through thinner concrete by homeowners with the right blade in it. Some of us have used it for that ...come on you know who you are,( heheh). They do not recommend this, you should get the proper saw for doing that kind of work.
I do remember all the job sites I was on and there was this exact saw sitting there in most everyone's tool chest on their truck or inside the truck, waiting to be used. Once inside the job that saw did most of the cutting. Most of the carpenters used the carbon blade.
It is imperative to keep this blade sharp. We used to have several blades and one or two were always in the sharpeners shop getting sharpened. It just makes sense to do that and when you use it you will see. Nothing worse than trying to do your job with a dull blade. We all know that or (heha) smelled that huh?
Rather have a cordless model? That can work just as fine as the corded models. One thing I suggest is having more than one battery charged up and ready to go.
There is one difference if you want a similar saw to what we are talking about here, which is the 7-1/4'' model 5007NK and that is:
The 18v Makita cordless Model BSS611Z have 6-1/2 inch circular blades rather than the 7-1/4inch circular blades. A lower rpm also. If you do a circular saw comparison ever, you will see it ranks high. Here is some points on this cordless circular saw.
Makita-built motor delivers 3,700 RPM for faster cutting and ripping through wood
Compact, ergonomic design at only 6.9 lbs. for reduced operator fatigue
LXT Lithium-Ion battery and Rapid Optimum Charger produces 430% total lifetime work with 2.5x more cycles
3-year warranty on tool
Battery and charger sold separately
Makita 18v battery
So all in all this 7-1/4'' model 5007NK corded saw rocks. I was going to do a segment on the cons or the bad things of this saw but I cannot for the life of me think of one bad thing to say about it. As I said, most carpenters on the jobs I was on, and there was many, used this very saw. Hey so does the cordless model work well also. There is many situations where it will come in very handy. Best have one of each if you are doing allot of work, such as house building.
My parting thought is; this Makita circular saw will bring you many, many years of satisfaction for any project you are doing, whether it be at home or on site.
The Warranty is the famous, very good Makita warranty they have for all their products.
Thanks for listening.
I hope this helped you in your quest for a good saw to use at home or on the job.

My dad had at least a couple of Makita drills in his tool shed. He bragged about them to his friends. I miss those talks in his shed, just us laughing about . . . nothing, really . . Thanks! ;-)
